Knysna and the surrounding indigenous forests where once home to herds of Knysna elephant who wandered freely in their natural forested habitat. Due to man's interference over the years, the numbers have dwindled completely and today only three elephant are believed to remain in the area. The Knysna Elephant Park provides a refuge for orphan elephants and visitors will be able to touch, feed and interact with these gentle giants. The elephants have free range of the 60 hectare park and at night they are housed and fed in their own custom built boma. Visitors are able to visit the park daily, and may also arrange for a guided walking safari alongside the elephants in the Knysna forest.
