Located on the picturesque Garden Route approximately half-way between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, George is the commercial hub of the region and is also an excellent base from which to explore the many surrounding attractions of the region. George first developed around a booming timber industry and is one of the oldest and most well-established towns in South Africa - yet it has retained a relaxed and laid-back atmosphere ideally suited to the holidaymaker.

Activities and attractions include a range of sports and outdoor activities as well as beaches, beautiful scenery and the ever-popular Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe train which chugs gently between George and Mossel Bay. The area is also home to three of South Africa's top golf courses, including the Fancourt Golf Course designed by Gary Player.

George allows easy access to the other Garden Route towns of Sedgefield, Wilderness, Knysna and Plettenberg Bay as well as to the ostrich-farming town of Oudtshoorn further inland.
