Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Retreat Star Star Star Star Star

Exclusive

Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Retreat, located 270 kilometres from Cape Town, is a 5 star ecological oasis, uniting luxury and nature, providing the ultimate wilderness experience. A sanctuary to many endangered species of fauna and flora and unique for over 130 San Bushman rock art sites. Bushmans Kloof is a proud member of Relais & Chateaux and is recognised as one of South Africa's Natural Heritage Sites.

In 1991 Bill and Mark McAdam purchased 7 500 hectares of overgrazed and severely neglected farm land in the foothills of the Cederberg. They began resuscitating the veld, and after consultation with wildlife and botanical experts, implemented a long term veld management programme to restore the natural botanical richness of the land, and started reintroducing indigenous game.

Guest rooms, swimming pools and the Homestead were built, and the landscaping of the indigenous gardens began. The crumbling 1843 farm house was magnificently restored as the Manor House, and extended with new wings, deep verandahs, and a great wooden deck, built under the ancient ficus trees. In 2000 Bushmans Kloof was accredited to the prestigious Relais & Châteaux association.

In 2004 the property was purchased by its present owners and the Manor House was transformed into gracious reception rooms as well as two luxury suites and two deluxe rooms, each bearing the name of early Scottish pioneers and explorers who lived in or visited the Cederberg area: Gordon, Paterson, Niven and Masson.

The Manor House acts as official check in and welcome area. Custom made fabrics and handmade bed linen enhance the luxury and comfort of the bedrooms, while the bathrooms are delightfully 'au naturel' with soft lighting and natural colours, shades and hues adding to their charm.
