Cape Winelands Tour

Franschhoek - Paarl (or reverse)
Duration: 1 Days
Departs: Sea Point Hotels, Waterfront Hotels and Downtown Hotels
Returns: Place of origin.

This delightful drive winds its way to the heart of the Cape Winelands, through towering mountain ranges into valleys filled with yellow gold of lines of vineyards and Cape Dutch homesteads. The tour is available as a full day tour or a half day tour. The half day tour departs twice daily in the morning around 8.30am and in the afternoon around 1.30pm. The full day tour departs at 8.30 and returns to the hotel by 5.30pm.

Leaving Cape Town behind us we head off to the wine-country via the N1 to one of the Cape's first farming districts - Paarl. The town is set at the foot of the cluster of remarkable granite domes from which it takes its name. Our first stop of the morning is the picturesque Seidelberg Wine Estate where we will enjoy an informative cellar tour and wine tasting while learning about wine-making and grape varietals.

From Paarl we proceed to the town of Franschhoek, a beautiful and welcoming town known as the 'gourmet capital of the Cape'. Historically dating back to the 17th century, Franschhoek was started with the arrival of the French Huguenots. Franschhoek complements the artistry of its chefs and winemakers with the breathtaking beauty of its setting. We enjoy a winetasting at one of the numerous wine estates in the area, before taking time to enjoy the fabled culinary skills of the chefs at one of the many award winning restaurants. (Franschhoek is not included in the half day tour.)

After a delicious lunch we twist and wind over the Helshoogte Pass with its magnificent views of both the Franschhoek and Stellenbosch valley before stopping in the heart of the South African wine Industry - Stellenbosch. Walk down the canal-lined avenues, in the shade of giant oak trees and beautifully preserved historic buildings while soaking up the history and culture of this old university and wine producing town. Coffee shops, galleries, antique shops and wine bars spill onto the sidewalks. With the sheer vastness of wine estates on offer, we are truly spoilt for choice when we enjoy our final winetasting of the day in Stellenbosch.

We return to the bustle of city life after an enthralling day in the countryside, arriving back at the hotels at approximately 1.30pm for morning departures of the half day tour and 5.30pm for afternoon departures of the half day tour and the full day tour.
