The South African Museum was founded in 1825 and is the oldest museum to be found in sub Saharan Africa. The museum has been located in the Cape Town Company Gardens, in the heart of the city centre, since 1897. With displays on South African and world history, the museum provides insight into the past through displays of fossils, stone tools, photographs and much more. The museum is also connected to the adjacent Planetarium where visitors can learn more about the stars and skies above.
