Boat trip to Seal Island
Type: Boat trip, Seals, Views
Seal Island, also known as Duiker Island, is a small island just 30 minutes off the coast of Hout Bay in Cape Town. Providing a sanctuary and home for Cape Fur seals, the island is also inhabited by many water birds, including Kelp Gulls, Cape and Bank Cormorants and Hartlaub Gulls. The majority of seals on the island are young males waiting until they reach breeding age. Boat trips depart daily from Hout Bay harbour and take visitors close to the island, however; it is illegal to actually go onto the island. A boat trip may also include a visit to the shipwreck of the Boss 400, a huge crane barge that was stranded in July 1994; or a scenic exploration of Chapman's Peak from the sea.
