Cape Agulhas

Time needed: 3 Hour(s) to 3 Day(s)

Found 2 ½ hours outside of Cape Town, Cape Agulhas feels like the end of the world, and justifiably so, as this is the southern most point of Africa and also the meeting point of the Atlantic and Indian Ocean. A rugged and sparse environment, Cape Agulhas is battered by the wind sweeping across the ocean which has earned this stretch of coastline its well-deserved nickname of 'Cape of Storms'.

The areas is rich in history; man has been living here for hundreds of years, using the environment to their advantage, as can be seen by the Khoi khoi middens dotted along the shoreline. One can easily imagine the fear of the sailors who faced the angry storms and braved the extreme weather conditions while rounding the Cape en-route to the East. The brightly painted red and white lighthouse still stands proud today and is the landmark of the town acting as a warning to all souls who choose to enter the sea.

Today the fishing town of Cape Agulhas is quaint and unassuming offering some exciting watersport and fishing opportunities.
