Fly-Fishing

Type: Fishing, Nature, Views
Dullstroom in the Mpumalanga Province is considered to be South Africa's fly-fishing capital, offering abundant dams and rivers well stocked with rainbow and brown trout. Many guesthouses and accommodation establishments offer fly-fishing and accommodation packages aimed specifically at the avid fly-fisherman, and trained guides are available to take guests out on fishing expeditions. Most of the fly-fishing is done on a catch and release basis while some areas give fishermen a quota of fish they are allowed to take home - rules differ from place to place. The South African trout waters are relatively small in comparison with international standards offering more streams than rivers, however; the fish are still plentiful and large, with the average catch being between 1.8 and 2.3 kilograms. Dullstroom is one of the highest towns in South Africa with many waterfalls and an abundance of wild flowers creating a scenic environment ideal for hiking, picnics and horse riding.
