Welgevonden Game Reserve
Only 2.5 hours from Johannesburg, or a 45 minute flight, Welgevonden Game Reserve is a malaria free private game reserve situated in the Waterberg plateau in Limpopo. The area is made up of mountainous terrain that is dissected by deep valleys and kloofs. Stretching over 34 000 hectares the reserve is home to over 50 different mammals including the 'Big Five', and is often compared in size, game viewing and conservation principles to other reserves such as Madikwe Game Reserve and the Kruger National Park. Welgevonden, as a private reserve, has one of Africa's largest populations of white rhinos.
The number of guests permitted at any one time is limited, and the park is not open to private day-visitors, resulting in an intimate atmosphere which also ensures minimal human impact on the environment and the animals.
