Umhlanga Rocks

Time needed: 4 Hour(s) to 4 Day(s)

Umhlanga is an attractive sea-side village on the east coast of South Africa just 16 kilometres from Durban City. With the warm Indian Ocean lapping at its shores, Umhlanga offers the ideal base for a relaxed seaside holiday or for visiting Durban's many attractions. Water sport enthusiasts and beach-lovers will be in heaven with the soft sandy beaches and abundant water activities to choose from, including surfing, fishing and whale and dolphin watching. Microlight flips are also a popular activity along this stretch of the coast with the warm seaside breezes creating the ideal conditions. Originally part of Sir Marshall Campbell's sugar estate, Umhlanga was first pronounced a village in 1931.

Umhlanga is also a perfect stopover point before commencing the 3-hour drive to St. Lucia or one of the nearby game reserves such a Hluhluwe-Imfolozi National Park.
