Sodwana Bay

Time needed: 1 Day(s) to 1 Week(s)

Situated along an unspoilt and uninhabited coastline within the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, Sodwana Bay is a deep-sea fishing paradise and offers some of the best opportunities for diving in South Africa. Sodwana's appeal is its isolation and solitude interrupted only by the small groups of divers that gather to view its diverse and spectacular underwater scenery. The reef has one of the world's highest recorded numbers of tropical fish species while turtles, rays and eels are also commonly seen. The beautiful coral, overhangs and crevices make this one of the top dive spots in the world. Excellent visibility and warm waters allow for superb scuba-diving and snorkelling all year round. Two-Mile Reef off Sodwana Bay offers excellent snorkelling while also being the perfect training ground for trainee scuba divers. There are a number of reefs to satisfy the appetite of even the most experienced dive enthusiasts too.

This small slice of paradise also offers guided walking trails taking in the spectacular coastal scenery and some serious deep-sea game fishing. In turtle season you have the unique opportunity to view the gigantic Leatherback and smaller Loggerhead turtles as they nest on the beaches and produce the next generation of young hatchlings.

Sodwana Bay offers the wonder of spectacular underwater marine fauna and flora, while also putting on a display of coastal wildlife and splendour attained by few other places in the world. This is a place to experience, explore and sit back in jaw-dropping awe as you take it all in.
