Butterflies for Africa is a world created specially for butterflies in all their shapes and enchanting colours. Situated in Pietermaritzburg, Butterflies for Africa offers a world class Butterfly House and Monkey House as well as an art gallery, craft shop and a coffee shop. Open Tuesday - Saturday from 9am onwards, visitors are invited to explore the centre and then spend as much time as they wish in the Butterfly House where friendly guides are available to answer any questions while on a tour of the butterflies' world. The Butterfly House is an enchanted place where brightly coloured butterflies from around the world flutter gracefully past your head while others rest gently on some fruit enjoying the sweet nectar. The enclosure is also home to a number of beautiful birds.
The monkey enclosure was added onto the Butterfly House in 2005 and provides visitors with the opportunity to interact with the rare cotton-top tamarin monkey. Also part of the Butterflies for Africa centre is the Butterfly Garden, a 6000 mē garden found in the middle of the industrial area of Pietermaritzburg. It was created with the main aim of attracting butterflies and bringing some beauty to this concrete world.
