Just 25km outside of Port Elizabeth in the Eastern Cape, one will find the Seaview Game and Lion Park. Here visitors can spend some time getting close to the King of the Wild; the lion.
Set in 120 hectares of bush and grassland, Seaview Lion Park is home to around 55 lions and lion cubs as well as 43 other species of wildlife; ranging from giraffe and impala to crocodiles, jackals and caracals. The park acts as a breeding centre for lions and white lions, hand rearing all the cubs in an attempt to create a larger gene pool for white lions in order to conserve this rare species.
An elevated walkway takes visitors past some of the enclosures allowing them to view the lions and other animals while they relax in the sun or enjoy a playful game with each other. A bird walk has also been designed for guests to attempt to spot the many indigenous species of birds. An added attraction on a Sunday is the lion feeding time where guests can see firsthand how an adult lion crunches ferociously through its meal.
One of the major attractions of the park is the opportunity to spend time with the lion cubs of 4-months and older. Guests can enter the enclosure and chat to the ranger while the cubs play close by; many of them are rather quizzical and may even decide to make you their newest friend! This is a wonderful opportunity that comes highly recommended.
