Grahamstown
Grahamstown is an attractive town with tree lined streets, old buildings and magnificent churches. Bursting with history, Grahamstown is found at the centre of South Africa's Frontier Country where the bloody battles between the Xhosa, British and Boers took place.
The town itself is often referred to as the 'City of Saints' due to there being over 40 churches and religious buildings found in the area. Grahamstown also boasts some renowned schools and Rhodes University - which has a long-standing reputation. The rich history of the area has provided Grahamstown with many stories to tell, some of which are displayed in a host of museums and historical monuments found around the town. In July each year the National Arts Festival is held in Grahamstown which draws large crowds who come to enjoy a mixture of local art, music, dance, drama and comedy.
