Graaff-Reinet

Time needed: 2 Day(s) to 1 Week(s)

Found in the midst of a barren and harsh landscape in the Klein Karoo is the town of Graaff Reinet. Established in 1786 the town was named after its governor; 'van der Graaf' and his wife 'Reinet'. Positioned as it is on the Sundays River, Graaff Reinet appears out of the dry escarpment as a green oasis with the Camdeboo National Park or Sneeuberg mountains looming over it and keeping guard. Graaff Reinet is the oldest town in the Eastern Cape and the forth oldest town in South Africa. Known for its magnificent architecture, fynbos and monuments - Graaff Reinet has more National Monuments than any other town in South Africa. Spend time in this town and soak up its historical air and old world charm.
