Situated 1057 kilometres from Cape Town, East London is an attractive coastal city on the South East Coast of South Africa. Found between the Nahoon River and the Buffalo River, East London is South Africa's only river port and is the largest city in the Eastern Cape.

East London is a laid back city with a sub-tropical climate, soft sandy beaches and warm seas, making it a popular tourist destination for both local and international visitors. East London's climate is one of warm summers and mild, crisp winters making it ideal for outdoor activities and water sports such as swimming and surfing. The Nahoon Reef is considered to be one of the finest surfing destinations in the world and has hosted many international surfing competitions. East London is well positioned between Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg and is also considered to be the gateway between the Wild Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

The area surrounding East London is rich in history with the banks of the Buffalo River showing the existence of a 200 000 year old footprint, the oldest fossilized human footprint in the world. East London is also known as Buffalo City, a name given to the river by the Khoi San due to the large number of Buffalo that used to graze in the area. The East London Museum is home to the first fossilized Coelacanth, a prehistoric fish once thought to be extinct. The Natural History museum is another wonderful experience where visitors can see the world's only existing Dodo egg.
