In complete contrast to the barren desert landscape that is common with most of Namibia, the Mudumu National Park has the Kwando River forming its western boundary, resulting in a lush green ravine forest, mopane forests and marshlands. There are 430 different bird species found in the park including the African fish eagle as well as a variety of different game including hippo, crocodile, elephant, zebra, red lechwe and sitatunga. The park has only one private lodge in its boundaries – Lianshulu Lodge which is situated on the banks of the Kwando River and offers nature drives, boating, bird watching and guided walks. The park which was originally created in 1990 stretches for 1010kmē and can only be accessed by four-wheel-drive vehicles.
