Keetmanshoop
Keetmanshoop is found in the Karas region of southern Namibia. The name Keetmanshoop means 'Keetman's hope' and the town is named after the German industrialist Johann Keetman who founded the city. Keetmanshoop is regarded as Namibia's southern capital and is positioned on one of the main tarred roads in Namibia. The town is centered around an attractive garden and has many shops and restaurants, providing everything that one could need.
Two nearby attractions well worth visiting are the Quiver Tree Forest and the Giant's Playground. Quiver Tree Forest, where a dense stand of quiver trees (Aloe dichotoma) can be explored is found just 23km north-east of Keetmanshoop.
A few kilometers further one will find the Giant's Playground - a jumble of massive dolerite boulders that are estimated to be between 160 million and 180 million years old. Both attractions offer other-worldly sights and are highly recommended.
