Gross Barmen Hot Springs is located just 100km away from Windhoek on a tributary of the Swakop River. Built as a missionary station in 1844, one can still see some of the remains of the old buildings. Originally known as Otjikango, meaning ‘a spring flowing weakly through rocky ground’ it was renamed Neu Barmen by the missionaries and then later Gross Barmen.
The resort has a magnificent setting with palm trees, lush green lawns, tennis courts and many different walkways, as well as the main attraction, the hot mineral spring. There is a large indoor thermal pool, an open air swimming pool and private baths. The resort is open all year and also offers bungalows and camping.
