Desert Dwelling Elephants

Type: Nature, Elephants
Time needed: 2 Day(s) to 4 Day(s)
The Desert Dwelling Elephants are found in the Damaraland and Kaokoland regions of Namibia. Adapted to the desert conditions these elephants can go for up to 4 days without water and have learnt to utilize the nutrients from the plants around them to their full extent; unlike most other elephant herds that leave a path of destruction in their wake. These elephants have been known to walk up to 60km away from their feeding grounds in order to find water during drought periods. It is estimated that there are only 600 truly desert elephants in the northwestern part of Namibia between the Hoanib and Hoarusib rivers. These elephants are not a new or sub-species of elephant but are nevertheless considered to be different.
