Brandberg or 'Burning Mountain' in English is found in the Damaraland region and is Namibia's tallest mountain with its highest point standing at 2573m above sea level. On a clear day the Brandberg can be seen across the flat expanse of the Namibian plains from a great distance. The mountains were given their name due to the radiant colour they turn at sunset. The mountain is made of granite and was formed billions of years ago due to underground volcanic activity and later, erosion. The Brandberg is home to over 45 000 prehistoric rock paintings including the most popular one known as the 'White Lady'.
