Benguerra Island
Benguerra Island is approximately 55 square kilometers (11km long x 5.5km wide), and lies 14km offshore. Its size ensures that guests enjoy ample privacy within an idyllic and unspoiled island paradise surrounded by magnificent beaches and pristine coral reefs. The island sustains a varied array of fauna and flora. The unique freshwater lakes on the island are indeed a reminder of ancient times when the island was part of the mainland and still hosts a
population of freshwater crocodiles.
Cashew nut trees are indigenous to the island, and harvested by the
islanders. They also harvest the toxic husk which is used to brew a very intoxicating liquor.
