Moremi Game Reserve
The Moremi Game Reserve incorporates around 20% of the Delta and is located to the north east of Maun. Stretching over 5000kmē, the reserve is intriguingly diverse as the landscape includes floodplain and savanna combined with thickly wooded areas, reed bed and wetlands and the park's inhabitants; including buffalo, lion, lechwe and cheetah, are as diverse as its landscape. The main land part of the park forms only 30% of the reserve with the remaining area being part of the Okavango Delta. Game viewing is best during the dry season between March and October when seasonal water pans dry up and the wildlife are forced to congregate around the more permanent watering holes. The park has four major camping sites all of which have basic facilities. All of the camps are unfenced and animals frequently prowl the camps at night searching for easy food scraps - therefore visitors are not encouraged to wander outdoors after dark! There are also a number of luxury lodges around the reserve. Visitors can explore the reserve at their leisure however; the roads can be in extremely bad condition and only highly experienced 4X4 drivers should attempt it.
