Francistown
Francistown is one of the oldest towns in Botswana and is home to over 100 000 people. Considered to be the 'Capital of the North', Francistown is Botswana's second largest urban centre. With its origins as the centre of southern Africa's first gold rush, the city is now surrounded by old and abandoned mines.
Located just 400 km from the country's capital; Gaborone, Francistown has roads to Maun, Gaborone, Kazungula and Zimbabwe all passing through it, making it an ideal starting or finishing point for your holiday. As with most destinations within Botswana, it is recommended that visitors stop at Francistown, or any major town, to refuel and stock up on provisions as the distances between towns and attractions are vast. Francistown is also relatively close to some of Botswana's top attractions, including the Tuli Block and the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans.
